Luminescences at Zoo d’Amnéville 2023 — “Welcome to Paradise” — turned the French zoo into a spectacular lantern festival filled with tropical beaches, colorful fantasy creatures, and festive food-inspired displays.

Blending Chinese lantern craftsmanship with French cultural elements, the event lit up Christmas and New Year celebrations, attracting thousands of visitors, boosting local tourism, and strengthening China-France cultural exchange.

Featured Design:

This year’s Lantern Festival adopted a new theme “Welcome to Paradise”, in the design that merges the Chinese and French culture elements. The tropical charm of beaches and coconut trees, the colorful fantasy creatures and the lively food elements like cocktails and fruits were all transformed into lanterns, together creating a dreamlike spectacle of light and shadow.

Seasonal Alignment:

It covers key European holidays such as Christmas and New Year. The fantastic Lantern Festival has become a popular choice for people to visit during the New Year celebrations. Audiences of all ages can experience the warmth of culture and the joy of the festival through the light and shadow, adding vibrant colors to the local holiday life from autumn through spring.

1.Deepen China-France Cultural Exchanges and Showcase the Charm of Intangible Cultural Heritage

As an important platform for China-France cultural interaction, the Lantern Festival deeply integrated elements of both cultures. Through the traditional intangible cultural heritage (ICH) craftsmanship of Zigong lanterns, it directly showcased the unique charm of Chinese traditional culture to European audiences, effectively promoting mutual understanding and blending of the two countries’ cultures.

2.Stimulate Local Economy and Empower Urban Development

The festival attracted a large number of visitors from France and other European countries, with visitor numbers showing an upward trend compared to the previous session, directly driving the development of local related industries in Amneville. At the same time, it enhanced the city’s reputation, injecting new vitality to its development.
